Art Trade: Beverly and Marie

HOLY CRAP! JESS ACTUALLY DIDN'T TAKE 60 MILLION YEARS TO DO AN ART TRADE!!

*lots and lots of cheering, followed by an award ceremony*

Thank you, everyone! Yes, I know, I know you all didn't think it was possible that I could actually finish my half of a trade -

ANYWAY.

Yes, I'm pretty impressed with myself. This one actually only took me a bit to finish, but my drawings take a little longer because I shove my drawings under heavy books while the watercolours I use for the backgrounds dry in an attempt to flatten the pictures. (If I don't do this, the pictures end up rippling or curling, and it really annoys me.)

Anyway. I got the SUPERAWESOME CHANCE to do an art trade with my brother from anudder mother, , and it was TRULY AWESOME. When he suggested it, I jumped at the chance, because a) his art is awesome, and b) I love doing art trades (hint hint nudge nudge.......). And while I'm sometimes slow at them, I still enjoy doing them. I REALLY was excited to do one with the Hilarious One because I just LOVE his style - totally brings me back to my childhood! It's seriously great, and I DEMAND you go visit his gallery LYK RITE NAO.

So, we decided to do a girly little art trade! Yes. We both drew each others characters being like, totally girly like omg makeup hair clothes shoes omg Shopping Channel Food Network! *blink* So, for his half, I asked him to draw up Melanie and Clarice because OMG BEST FRIENDS!! and....GO LOOKIT THE RENDITION NAO!! So for my half, he asked me to draw to Beverly and Marie, from his webcomic, Keeping Up With Thursday: keepingupwiththursday.jigsy.com . I was super excited since it was kinda fun to draw some rodents instead of my usual cat, dog, or ferret like animal people so... yes. Granted, my mouse and rat people look not that much different from my cat and dog people, but whatever. I got some inspiration flipping through some ads for Gap (You know, I've never shopped there, but I love their ads.) and decided to draw them all huggy and stuff! I'm like, really obsessed with winter settings right now, hence their kinda....wintery wear. I know it's probably a little out of character for them, but I just had to get out my obsession of drawing wintery stuff! I'm so happy it's winter! Err...well it's not winter yet, but whatever. You know what I mean. I'm a little peeved that Beverly's head turned out too small, but I really liked how the poses were going and I knew if I erased and redrew it would have thrown everything out of whack... Actually, I didn't really think Bev's head was so small until a little bit later on, and I was like :imrlynotimpressedplz: . I love how Marie came out tho! She's so cute! Beverly is wearing gloves, but Marie isn't. Dunno why I did that, maybe Marie doesn't get cold as easily or something? XD (Unlike me, who has a very small cold tolerance...And here I am saying I'm happy it's winter.... 0.0)

Seriously, am I the only one who has like, 8 million songs on their iTunes and skips like, 90% of them when listening to music? WTF. /random comment.

Anyway. So here they are! I had a lot of fun with this, but I'll probably end up redrawing them, so that way Beverly has a normal sized head. I think maybe I should have changed her head position or something. I think that's the problem. I really hate it when I draw characters heads too small but everything else turns out in the picture. I really should have done something more exciting with Beverly's hand that's just kinda floating there, but I'm assuming Marie went in to do a quick GIRL HUG! Girls do that a lot. It's kinda the girl equivalent to the bro-hug.

I did the background with my usual mix of watercolours. Nothing completely awesome or anything, but I like how the colours came together anyway.

I think I've SOMEWHAT managed to work with my scanner to make my pictures scan in less shitty. Now, of course, because my scanner is a raging douchebag, my scans are always completely and utterly terrible, but I was able to figure out some of the settings (Yes, it took me like, 2 years to do this. SHUT UP YOU GUYZ.) and attempted to adjust the grainyness. You know what's really ironic? The setting to reduce the grainyness was set to like, medium or something. I adjusted it to have no grain correction and it scanned in less grainy then normal.

Seriously, scanner, WHAT THE BLEEDING HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU??? Imma gonna bust your ass one day when you aren't looking.

I mean, seriously, the scan is still crap. But you all knew that. My scans can never be good or atleast half decent. But considering my asswipe of a scanner, this isn't that bad. The colours are all just really dull and terrible. There's still grain, but not as bad as before. I like whole grains, scanner. I DO NOT LIKE YOUR GRAINS, THO, SCANNER.

So yes. I'm really happy I finished this one in, you know, less then 10 years, because Hilarious got his half done in like, oh, gosh, a night? HE HAS SUPER SPEED POWERS. Perhaps I need to somehow gain this super speed knowledge as well.....
