Because, despite popular belief, being nerdy is actually being INSANELY HOT. There's nothing like the sound of my boy tapping at his computer keys and doing serious uber UNIX programming and getting down and dirty taking things out of his computer case and putting in TOTALLY NEW BADASS GEAR TO TOTALLY LEET HIS COMPUTER to get me to jump his bones.
And Sammy Sam here agrees! Just tell her all about how you totally gained XP and she's hooked.
Anyway, I wanted to draw some more Sam, because she's just so sweet and awesome, so I was flipping throught a Vogue magazine, finding inspiration from Cameron Diaz. Why, you ask? You see, they both have the same kinda body type, sorta boyish but really feminine at the same time, so Cameron inspired me to draw Sam!
So really, nothing all that exciting, just Sam waving her hands in the air, and waving them like she just doesn't care... or something like that. XD Maybe she's just stretching after a long, hard day of farming with her WOW character, or raiding, or something. In all actuality, while me wanting to draw Sam was a good start to this picture, I also did it for some more anatomy practice, and clothing folds practice as well too. I'm satisfied with the folds, altho I don't know if I positioned them in the right places or not. Hmm.. Ah well tho, I still like this.
The colours came out nicely, too! Altho, the scanner really ate her pants, and because of the background it kinda made this one rumply to scan so thats annoying too. This one was done a little while back, hence the whole thin lines around the face thingie, before I started to thicken the lines. I still like how this one came out tho, altho I don't know if her legs look off or not. I figured they looked alright, since had she had her leg (the one thats stretched out) closer to her body in more of a cross legged position, then I think her hips would be the size that I wanted them to be, but I dunno. I think I might have started the bend too early or something (if that makes any ounce of sense. XD) Ah well tho, I still like how this came out
I used watercolour pencils and markers for her background, thought the squigglies would add all kinds of excitement to the otherwise fairly boring and simple background. As you can see, I was still in the boring shapes in the background phase, so hence the boring square.
Wierd tho. If you look closely, the scanner, like...miss...scanned...the background. It's like near the bottom of the top of the picture (if that makes any sense. XD) it was broken apart, and then photoshopped shittily together. I seriously have NO IDEA why it did that (because it's a scanner and scanners are jackasses, thats why, Jess. ) It's not really noticeable, like, for instance, I JUST noticed it now, but it's just...really annoying now. And I can't stop focusing on it. Stupid scanner making me always think my art is all lame because it scans things in all lamelike. *flailing about*
Well anyway. Either way, I really like this one, the colours came out nice on her peachy parts I think, altho her hands were really irritating to draw..I think I did an okay job with them but I'm sure they still look fail like.
Her shirt reminds me of a honey cruller from Tim Hortons. I don't know why, it just does. OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!
Anyway, just a cute picture of cute Sammy Sam! And she's all nerdy and awesome and stuff because thats super cool.
I really like Sam! She's an inspiration to me as a nerd :'D There's something particularly soft and smooth about the coloring in this one! Especially in the face ^^ man, you're so good with pencils >< asdhfhfkliui!!
I don't remember seeing Sam before, but maybe that is my sieve like memory. I can see the Cameron Diaz influence - I think it's great that you've got a real life example.model for her.
Hee hee, she's a newer character, I posted her up a few months back (or probably longer, I'm not too sure anymore XD I start to lose track after a while!) I like to have real life models that I can use for references, since I try and give my characters different shapes and stuff like that. Altho, I admit it's really hard to find in fashion magazines since most women are stick figures - but hey, it works perfect when I'm drawing my thinner girls!
Oh yay! I'm glad shes an inspiration to you! That makes me the happy! Yeah, the colouring came out nicely, for some reason that peach colour always colours really nicely, unlike some of my other colours! XD
Don't get me started ranting about magazines and the skinniness of their models... great refs for skinny girls, I agree, but for everyone else = bad refs. As well as confusing women's body images...
You seriously keep getting better and better! Sam is SO adorable here, and her smile is simply genuine. I love the craftsmanship you bring with all all of your artwork. Keep it up!
LOL, yes, its very annoying. I mean seriously, I know that some girls are naturally really thin and beautiful, and theres nothing wrong with that. But I mean its just ALL the magazines show are these unrealistic women and they constantly throw down our throats what women should look like. I used to know a model when I was in high school (she was in modelling I guess.) It was PATHETIC what she ate. She had like an orange juice and that was it. She was so thin. THEN there are magazines for men - I admit glancing through them. I don't know if those ones are worse or not! The women they show on there are just...like.. WHAT?? I admit to almost having a heart attack once when I flipped through a magazine of mine and saw a PLUS SIZED girl modelling bathing suits. I was like... WOAH WUT??? It was VERY refreshing. (And, on another note, I find it really sad that "plus sized" models are...um..considered plus size. I hardly think someone who is a size 9 or size 11 is plus sized! 0.0) And wow. I just totally went on a rant. XD
I totally agree. Plus, I think a range of sizes are equally beautiful and it annoys me that “lus size” is normal. Most people (including many men!) tend to agree that model-thin is not attractive, so it annoys me that magazines – supposedly beauty magazines – just ignore this and project an unhealthy image until its readers. And it’s shocking what models eat – really sickening. I’d just like a realistic range of sizes in magazines – it would make me want to buy the clothes more that’s for sure!
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
