Spectra Head Shot

 Nah, again, just another drawing done because I had a really shitty drawing day so I thought I'd draw some fanart to break my routine. Or something.

 Anyway, you might remember my Toralei head shot - on the same paper I drew Deuce, Ghoulia and Spectra. I didn't like my Deuce, but my Toralei, Spectra, and Ghoulia came out okay, so I thought I'd finish them.

 Okay, I'll be honest. I was really iffy on my Spectra drawing... When I first drew it I thought she looked really terrible, but I thought maybe if I inked and coloured her I would have liked it a bit more. So that's what I did. Like, the drawing wasn't completely terrible, it just... I dunno. I didn't really like the sketch for some reason. Looking at it now I don't really know what I didn't like about it. I guess I didn't really think it was a good rendition of what I thought Spectra would look like if she translated into my style. Does that make sense? But I decided to finish it anyway... The only one of the four I really liked was Ghoulia's headshot if I'm really honest. I think the main reason I didn't like my Spectra originally because I couldn't make sense of her pose position. At the time it just looked kinda off. It still kinda looks off, but anyway.

 Anyway. So off I went, deciding to finish the Spectra that I did... And in the end I actually thought it came out okay! Not my favourite but...I think she looks okay.

 Part of the reason I drew Spectra to begin with is because I ADORE her hair! I love how...floofy it is! Granted all Monster High characters have wonderful hair, but Spectra's is so pretty! I have only one of her dolls, that my boyfriend bought for me because Spectra is one of his favourites and he knows I really love her doll I also love her facial structure as well and her eyes are so cool too

 So... here she is. Honestly, theres really not too much that I can really say about this. I think in the end it came out fine. It could have been better, and I'm not entirely happy with how her hair came out, but I actually fixed her hair from what it was in the original sketch when I inked the picture...It looked kinda... all over the place before in the original sketch and didn't make any sense at all. There was this big chunk HERE and then another one over THERE so... I just kinda smoothed it out. Granted, I love messy hair, so don't get me wrong. But sometimes when I draw overexaggerated hair (which I do, all the time, lets face it.....) it can get...WAY too overexaggerated. Anyway. So I just basically took what I drew originally and smoothed it out a bit when I inked the picture. I think it looks better now

 I love Spectra and always thought she was very...ethereal...Which makes sense, since she's a ghost. So I guess I was trying to convey an...ethereal look or something. Which is kinda hard when you draw a headshot because of the sheer fact that you're not drawing her body. So I guess thats why I chose that position thar, with her head kinda tilted up a bit and her back facing you. I thought that looked more ethereal than say, her just staring at you head on. I personally don't think she looks ethereal, but anyway.

 Her hair was actually REALLYYYYYY challenging. Again, like most, if not all, Monster High characters, her hair is multitoned, and trying to find the proper colours and making them look right is...really challenging. I'm pretty sure Spectra's hair is three coloured - purple, a light lavender purple, and then this magenta colour. It's hard to tell because sometimes I wonder if the dark purple colour is actually just shading in the pictures of Spectra I've seen. I took a glance at my Spectra doll and figured that her hair was really three different colours, so off I went to try and do that. It was kinda hard because the dark purple was blending way too much with the light purple so afterwards I went over the dark purple parts more so they stood out more. I think it came out okay. I didn't want to overdo it with the magenta parts since if you look at her doll the magenta parts are just kinda here and there, and that colour isn't on her hair all that much. So I just added a few stripes of it, again, that colour blended in too much to the purple colours so I had to go over it a few times. I think at the end of the day, the hair came out fine. Could have been better, but it looks okay regardless.

 Hmmm... Her eyes are really cool and interesting: static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__c… but as I was doing the picture I completely forgot that I wanted to do something completely different for her eyes than what I did. So I'm kinda pissed off with how her eyes came out here but they look okay. (I wasn't originally going to ink her eyes like I did, and I was going to do them a bit differently....) Oh foo.


 Anyhoo. I really love Spectra's face sculpt - I have a thing for cheekbones and Spectra's face sculpt has really wonderful cheekbones so I couldn't wait to draw them.... I don't really like how I drew her face here. Like, well, I dunno. I just don't really care for the way I drew it that much. It's not that I don't like it, and it looked better after I coloured it, but...I dunno. Again, kinda just on the fence about everything with this one. Made her shirt a purpley colour, because Spectra wears a lot of purpley tones Thats why I love Monster High too, well, one of the reasons why! I love how the characters are always in similar colours all the time. I like to do that with my own characters so it's kinda fun to see that in the Monster High ghouls as well

 Andddddd AS PER USUAL, the scan of this is....NOT GOOD. I mean it's not as bad as my scan of Toralei, in fact, it's FAR superior to my scan of Toralei, but....It's still crap. This one came out grainy. Really grainy for some reason. My scanner is the worst thing on this planet, seriously. I might even say it's more of a douche than Kanye West....Hell, Justin Beiber, even! I know, I know, that basically makes my scanner rank INCREDIBLY HIGH on the douche scale but...Seriously CANNOT EVEN...UGH. The lineart scanned in pretty crappy as well. Again, not as bad as my Toralei headshot but it's still a pretty crappy...So...Once again, as per usual, for the millionth time in Jessart history, I have to say...

 Anyway. So yeah. Nothing really exciting. In the end I think she came out fine. Could be better, but she looks fine anyway. I think I'd have fun drawing a full bodied picture of her so I'll have to try that sometime.

 I like doing these headshots of characters... They're fairly quick and easy to do, and I'll be the first to tell you guys that sometimes, I just want to do quick artwork instead of spending like hours doing a single picture. Granted, tho, these sometimes can take long depending on the character because I'll be really anal about how I do the hair/clothes/eyes/whatever, but for the most part I finish these pretty quickly. I'm generally a fast worker when it comes to my art anyway (relatively speaking. I draw and colour really quickly, it's just actually getting around to actually pulling out a picture and finishing it is what takes long. I just throw all my drawings I do into a pile and eventually get around to finishing them. It's a really annoying thing >.< )

 Anyhoo. So yes, nothing fantastic, just a drawing of Spectra from Monster High I felt like doing when I couldn't draw anything else. Again, was debating on whether to keep Toralei, Ghoulia, and Spectra as just one picture but in the end I liked how they turned out enough to keep them as seperate pictures

 And...I guess that's it! Could have been better, but not completely terrible YAY JESS ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING!!
