Venus Has Flower Power

...Venus was also brutally murdered by my scanner.

(But you already knew that tho, didn't you?)

Anyway. So as you probably know already, I tend to have a lot of scrap pieces of paper lying around. This is usually because I buy larger sheets of paper, and I cut the larger sheets of paper into smaller sizes. Sometimes I just end up cutting pieces too small than what I had wanted so I just end up having peices of paper lying about. A good number of these are still large enough for me to want to still use them, so occassionally I'll pick out pieces and doodle something on it.

 Anyway, I had this scrap piece of cardstock paper - that stuff can be kinda expensive so I try and use the scrap pieces if I have them and they are still useable. I was kinda having an off drawing day (been having a few of those at the end of the 2013.) and....I resorted to fanart because I have this wierd thought process where if I can't draw my own characters, than maybe I can draw characters from stuff I like.

 This is actually a pretty flawed thought process, because if I suck at drawing something one day, then I pretty much just suck at drawing everything.

 So on this day, I decided I would try my hand at some Monster High characters again. I was looking straight ahead, and I saw my Venus McFlytrap doll staring back at me. She's one of my favourite character designs EVER. I ADORE her shaved hairstyle and her love for the environment and nature is great (and an awesome message as well!) I remember the first time I bought my Venus doll, the cashier basically looked at her and said, not in the exact words but basically that she was pretty ugly 0.0 Which she totally is not because her doll is really gorgeous, and VERY unique.  Anyway. I take offense to people offending mah gurls. (AKA my dollies!)

 Anyway, so with Venus staring back at me, I thought I'd give her a whirl. And this is what I came up with.

 It didn't come out terrible, but I was still on the fence on whether or not I wanted to finish her but in the end I thought I'd finish her because I thought the picture would look maybe better if I coloured it, and well...Cardstock paper is expensive so....Yeah. Her pose is particularly stupid. I don't know what the hell she's supposed to be doing. Dancing? Prancing? What? What the hell is going on here? I added the flowers in there because I had her arms positioned in that way and I thought she would look really stupid just...waving her hands in the air waving them around like she just didn't care... So...That's why she has flowers. That wasn't even the initial intent. I think maybe wrapping her up with vines or something would have been more dynamic, but I only realize this right now. But anyway. In the end after I finished it and coloured it I guess it came out fine

 I honestly couldn't wait to do her hair. Oh my god, her hair is the greatest ever. Her pink and green combo is just brilliant! I had quite a lot of fun drawing her hair. Monster High characters hair is like, some of the best hair EVER.

 Her outfit is based on her original, first doll outfit but I didn't want to just copy it completely so... that resulted in the outfit you see here. She's always quite colourful and bright so I wanted to use a lot of bright colours for her. I think her head came out too small now that I look at this but.. I dunno. I still...like this one. I liked how I drew her face so I was pretty hardpressed to actually just erase it and start over >.< The only thing aside from her small head that really annoys me is that her pink parts of her hair should be more magenta-ee. They don't look as dull on the original and closer to Venus's actual hair colour, but you know. My scanner. My scanner is a shitface loser so...yeah.

 The leggings are coloured with markers; I've been colouring large peices of black with markers these days because I think it turns out much darker; when I use coloured pencils sometimes it doesn't come out dark like I want it to be. The shading part is just a white coloured pencil coloured over the marker, but my scanner, as per usual, failed to scan that in properly.

 The background was done with watercolours, as per usual. Those colours in the background are actually NOT what  wanted... I wanted colours that didn't clash so much with Venus but low and behold I fail and therefore I failed with the background. I mean it doesn't look terrible or anything, but not the colours I wanted. I think I was going more for blue/purples and not...whatever the hell that is.

 The scan of this...isn't....THAT bad. But it's not very good really. I've been having issues with my scanner - more than I usually do - these days and lately my scanner is even worse than normal. This one scanned in REALLY bland and really dull. The colours are just...just...terrible. Her hair is actually a different shade than her body on the original drawing but, you know. My scanner. My scanner does things that piss me off. Like seriously you guys, Imma not even joking about my scanner when I bitch about it. It really does take all of my pictures and take a shit all over them. Not even joking. :imrlynotimpressedplz: Just using my art as it's own personal toilet bowl.

 So yes. I like how this one came out in the end. I mean it's not the greatest but I think it came out fine and I'm glad that I finished it. Wish her head didn't come out so small. Maybe if I drew her neck bigger it would have looked...better? I dunno.

 She was pretty fun to draw tho. I've always loved Venus' face sculpt - it's one of my favourites. She's such a cool doll, but I unfortunately only have one doll of her. I'll have to remedy that tho but my city is really shitty at getting new dolls. That and Monster High dolls are absurdly expensive 'round these parts, it's really, really, really annoying. But anyway.

 Not the greatest drawing I've ever done, but it's not the worst either. I like it more than I did when I first drew her, but I certainly would like to draw something much better of her Really this was just something I drew when I couldn't draw anything else. Again, terrible scan of it, and come to think of it it's kinda grainy but... It's much more acceptable compared to my other scans tho so...We should be...happy? for that? I guess? XD I dunno anymore.

 So yes, just Venus McFlytrap, in a really stupid pose, with really stupid looking flowers! Trotting her way to environmentally friendlyness! You go girl. You go!
