So...this drawing started it all.

When I finished this drawing, the only thing that I could notice was Calico's head size. And it completely flipped me out. But see, I didn't notice that her head was totally small UNTIL I actually stood up and look at it and then I had a bit of an art rage moment.

It was then, my friends, that I decided to start looking at my drawings from above more often to make sure my characters don't look like freaks. See, sometimes I feel particularly generous and make sure my characters don't look like freaks on purpose. Tee hee! :iconteheplz:

(Sometimes when they piss me off tho, I purposely make sure they look particularly freakish. THEY NEED TO BEHAVE. :iconnotimpressedplz: )

Anyway, so thats the story of how I found out a new way to draw my characters not so small headed and stuff.

Sometimes, after a few days of not drawing anything, I like to draw warm up drawings, and usually my warmup drawings are simple drawings, like a headshot like, well, this one.

I think it was a Monday morning or something, and I was just sitting there watching alien shows with my tinfoil hat wrapped tightly around my head, waiting for my boyfriend to wakeup, and I decided to draw Calico once again. I hadn't drawn her for a while so...I guess I've been drawing more of her. She's like, seriously, my first character ever so I guess I should pay her more respect. :icondurrhurrplz:

So. Here's the end result. I wanted something a little more dynamic for her pose, so hence the...um...Jazz hands thing going on. I just wanted something cute and thought jazz hands, I guess, would be cute. Okay so maybe they aren't jazz hands, but their more...expressive hands, anyway.

So here she is, really nothing particularly awesome, but again, her head is just annoyingly small here and I hate it. Maybe it's her hands being too small (I'm really pissed off at drawing hands lately 0.0), or the way her shoulders are positioned, or maybe I just fail hard. Again, I really only noticed her small head AFTER I finished the picture. I think her shoulders are just too wide or something. I don't know. I could probably dissect this all day to figure out what happened, but one thing we know for sure is that, once again, I managed to make my character look like a freak.
:iconclapplz:

Anyhoo, my sister previously drew Calico with freckles, and I thought that was cute, and thought I would start to give Calico freckles. As you all know, I'm trying to stop same-face syndrome, and I think one way of also doing that is making my characters slightly more unique. I think the freckles are a nice touch and she looks super cute! I kinda hate being inconsistant with my characters, and changing them randomly, but I think it's a change that works well. And it's not that big of a change, really, I guess so...Yes. Freckles are super special. I HAS FRECKLES TOO.

(That's not a freckle, Jess, that's a giant zit.)

SHUT UP BRAIN.

Anyway. The background, as per usual, was done with watercolours. Nothing exciting, just something simple and fun. I wanted to make sure that I didn't use too many reds, if any at all, for the background because of the obvious fact that Calico is very red-hued everywhere and such. I always worry that my backgrounds and the characters will clash if I use too close of colours. Hmm. Probably why I use a lot of blues for my backgrounds, because my characters aren't blue. :iconhurrplz:

And, as you probably figure out, once you stopped being terrified of Calico's itty bitty head problem, that the scan is, of course, terrible and disgusting. This most likely also freaks you out because my scanner makes everything I draw incredibly hideous. Okay, okay, so it's not THAT bad, but it's...you know...PRETTY bad. I have NO IDEA why my scanner can't EVER scan red colours right. It just doesn't make any sense. Seriously. Red isn't that difficult to comprehend.

Maybe my scanner is colour blind.

I shouldn't make excuses, tho, for my scanner. Really, the answer is that my scanner is a DOUCHEBAG. It feeds off of my misery and making my drawings look terrible. I hate you scanner. I hate you with every fibre of my being.

One day, scanner. One day, I will destroy you. :shakefist:

Anyhoo, so yes, nothing really fantastic, just Calico being cute. I'm really pissed off with all of the hands I draw lately. I just...I just feel like I can never get them right. That's it. I'm going to give my characters tenticles. *puts her foot down* No ands, ifs or buts. TENTICLES. *flails about*

Anyhoo, I like this one. It could have turned out better, and Calico's head could have looked less wierd, but it's still fine. I like how her hair came out. I wish I had natural red hair. I would never dye my hair, ever, if I had red hair.... *sighs*....

So yes! Jazz hands Calico! WHEE!

Calico here is to Jess Ratte :D

Okay but I HAVE to tell you how much I love her hands. It's not just jazz hands but also the linework on her fingers and stuff. I have a few things that I love to draw well but rarely do and when I draw them well I'm beyond happy, and those are hair and hands and a few others; so because of that I flail over you when you do them. ;D
