Welcome To My Crib

Description

As I was colouring this picture, my boyfriend came strolling in and said to me a comment that made me glow and smile all over. It was quite a simple comment, but as an artist it really meant a lot to me.

And no, it wasn't "Jess, you really don't fail as much as you think you do! You only half fail!"

(For the record, my boyfriend always calls me "Jessica". Most times I'd rather be called Jess, but for some reason when he says my name it's like butterflies!)

(Aw. HOW MUSHY CUTE. *members of the audience throw up daisies*)

It was this: "I really like how you are doing backgrounds on your pictures now."

I dunno, it was nice to hear that and sorta gave me some encouragement to start doing more exciting pictures!

Anyway, onward forth into the description my lieges! (LOLWUT?)

So I felt like drawing more Alex. So a long time ago, I did that. You see, I fail at posting my pictures within a decent time frame like everyone else, so a good number of my pictures that I post are from centuries gone by. Okay, so not that long ago, but still. Whatever. I wanted to practice on a few things:

Alex.
Backgrounds.
Furniture and make them look like furniture.
Not failing.

So, after a few hours of contemplating, I put all those things together and decided that I would draw Alex, with a background, with furniture and try and make them look like furniture. I'm freakin' brilliant like that. *goo from her brain seeps out from her ears* *shoves Q-tips in there to stop the flow of braingoo.*

So I thought it would be fun to draw my characters apartments/living quarters. I'm one of those really REALLY REALLY strange people who find characters living quarters really fascinating. I like to picture in my head what thier apartments/rooms/caves/houses/other things you might live in look like. I don't know why. I think it's because I'm a Cancer, and as a Cancer, we like to hang out in homes and be emo. So I pictured that, being a fashion designer, Alex probably has this really fun, modern touch to her apartment, with lots of colours and neat abstract paintings that she probably did herself, because she's not interested in spending 7000000000$ on a piece of artwork in which someone splattered paint on a canvas and said "HURRRR FINISHED!".

So off I went, and came up with this picture! So here is Alex, hanging out on her purple chair, that matches her purpley walls, with her fuzzy rug (BECAUSE WE SHOULD ALL HAVE A FUZZY RUG.) and matching ottoman! I love her playful little expression - she just leaks confidence. We need more girls like her. She can eat a donut and not give a shit about how many calories are in it. (She figures an hour in Rages bedroom will burn that donut off. 'Course she never has been in Rages bedroom in the way she would like to, but just pretending she has burns off calories. :iconteheplz: ) Anyway. She's being all fashiony and awesome! This one is kinda old, I think I drew and finished it at the beginning of the year (Procrastination. I haz it.) but just haven't gotten around to posting it. (No shit, Sherlock.) Overall I'm happy with how it came out! I'm surprised that chair came out as good as it did. I think I might actually be getting, you know, better. Not a lot better, but somewhat better. Hey, atleast it looks like a chair.

(I actually think it looks like a toilet.)

BRAIN. Besides, we sit on toilets, and we sit on chairs. Same concept. And if we keep talking about sitting on toilets this description is going to get really wierd and creepy, so continuing on. I was going to be boring with her carpet originally, but then I was like... Okay. This is Alex. Alex would probably do something a little more exciting with her carpet. So, I thought, perhaps she should have this pattern or something on her carpet. I don't know how her apartment building feels about her ripping up her flooring and installing a new carpet, but she doesn't give a crap. She's Alex and can do whatever the $!#$@ she wants. So, I thought... how about a black carpet with some circles? So that way, I still get my daily dose of circles, and....uh...yeah. I was thinking of two colours that I like together, and thought pink, yellow, and black would look really nice together, and would match/compliment her furniture. So off I went! I just loved how it came out! My boyfriend said he liked the carpet (So does that mean, Josh, when we move out and get a house, I can thus install a similar carpet? :iconyayzplz: ), and I thought it came out better then I thought. I used my pen/marker/whatever its called besides my evil instrument that I use for inking to colour the black in (because it would have looked better then had I used a coloured pencil) and then just did the circles. I'm sure some are kinda lopsided but hey, I tried. I also didn't want her walls to be white, so I thought of an off-purple colour that would suit the look I was going for. So thus, that lilacy colour. The wall was done with a Tria marker and then some of the shading was done with coloured pencils. I'm actually really happy with how this came out, but once again, I make my background look lopsided because I fail. The white part on the wall (I have no idea what they call those. Floor trimming? Wall trimming?) is just drawn all lopsided. It's okay. We'll just pretend Alex lives on a hill. Or, possibly, levels, like Kramer, because she's sorta Kramer-like in her antics.

As for Alex herself, if you didn't know or couldn't tell, she's wearing grey tights with an argyle pattern on. She's not that dark. I was hoping most people could tell but the grey ended up turning out too light. I love her hair so much! And I've taken a liking to that ottoman there. It's pretty good. Very box like. It's amazing it turned out that good. I know the chair looks like the back is floating in the air but I tried to add the back legs but they looked really wierd. So I simply pretending the chair was longer then it appears.

Pretending I know what I'm drawing gets me through the day.

I love that painting behind her. I should do something like that.

(Course you can't paint so....)

I CAN PAINT LINES.

(Really Jess? Can you REALLY?)

I'm ignoring you now. And of course, once again my scanner wreaks havoc and fucks up my picture. It does this because, as you know, it feeds off of my misery. My misery makes it stronger. The the more miserable it makes me, the stronger it gets - the more power it has to destroy my pictures. Pretty soon, it will have enough power to take over the world.

And please tell me that the chair legs don't look like penises. I honestly really tried not to make them look like penises. I really did.

Anyway, just Alex, hanging out in her crib. She's all like DAMN!
